Most golf enthusiasts have probably heard of this name as
one of the greatest golf legends of all time. Some of you may know his name,
where he lives, when was he born and what his records say in his chosen passion
sport. But there are things that you probably are still not aware about this
great guy. Are you anxious to know more about him?
· For the benefit of those who are still new in
golf, Bobby Jones was born on March 17, 1908 and he was a lawyer by profession.
But when he was a child, he had battles with some health issues and playing
golf was recommended for him and from the first time he held a golf club at age
6, the rest as they say is history. He went on to compete in different
occasions, even defeating famous golfers and celebrities during his time.
· Contrary to what many people believed, Bobby
Jones did not have a wealthy lifestyle. It even came to a point wherein he had
to move to his parent’s house and he was not able to join some of the major
games especially abroad because he did not have enough money to travel and
compete.
- · He is mostly recognized and famous for his Grand slam win with all four major championships within the same year (1930). He was the first golfer to have won the US open, British open, US Amateur and the British Amateur in the same year.
- · He retired from professional golf in the same year that he won the Golf Grand slam.
- · In the 1920’s, American sports name their 5 giants in different fields or specialization. Bobby Jones is named as one of them in the sport Golf.
- · Jones had problems with his health especially in 1948 wherein he was diagnosed with Syringomyelia which is a disorder where cyst or cavities are formed in the spinal cord. At first the patient will feel pain and eventually results to paralysis that is why this disorder made him restricted in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
- · He died from this disorder on December 18, 1971.
Bobby Jones was at the peak of his career and showed no other
people can do with regards to his passion in life. This proves that in life,
there is nothing impossible as long as you put your heart on what you love
doing the most.
